Maggie joined the VET team in March 2019. She was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, but left to earn her B.S. in Agricultural Engineering at Purdue University. Upon graduation, she moved to France for a one-year internship studying precision agriculture near Toulouse. After returning to Indiana, she worked for five years as an environmental engineer and earned her P.E. license. Her favorite project was writing a guide to storm water management by mimicking natural features like wetlands and utilizing native vegetation.
In 2005, she left the engineering world to study permaculture, living in a tent for six months at Lost Valley Educational Center near Eugene, Oregon. Inspired by ecovillage life but homesick for the rolling hills and caves of southern Indiana, she returned to Bloomington. Over the next decade she pursued a series of jobs promoting local and sustainable agriculture.
Maggie’s personal time is mostly spent volunteering on boards and committees ranging from Girl Scouts to Bloomingfoods to the Bloomington Commission on Sustainability. She also enjoys converting her yard to Indiana native plants, solarizing her home, and attempting to learn to quilt.
